Alaska

This was the first time in many years that I got to travel with my sister, who recently graduated (congratulations, Pajju!). :) In the process, scratch off another state off my to-see list. Summer is a great time to be in Alaska. I did NOT expect it to be so warm up there. It felt, “normal”.

Matanuska Glacier

We started our trip by walking on some glaciers, and learning a lot along the way. Mica guides were extremely helpful in guiding us along. The views like the ice falls are stunning. Unfortunately, these glaciers are shrinking in volume by the year. Sigh :(

Wildlife sanctuary

We decided to stop along a wildlife sanctuary along the way, and see some exotic animals up close - bull elks (and other elks), musk oxen, porcupines, and more! I envy their chill life! :)

Seward

Seward is a cute little cruise-town (I don’t know if that’s what it’s called) south of Anchorage. We decided to go whale watching. It was probably bad timing as whales had left by then. I did see one otter though. After this, I realized that I don’t think I enjoy cruises even if I saw whales. On the way back, we stopped at Eklutna lake and saw a native american teepee by the misty lake. Also, ask Pajju to show her yoga pose pictures and my imitation of it taken near this lake - it’s funny af. :D

Anchorage

Back to Anchorage - we went to a bar that day - the cucumber beer (I still know what it was called - cool cuke) was AMAZING! On the same day I picked up some books at the used books store - I’m so glad I did because some of those books have influenced me since. Decided to hike the flattop mountains the next day - it has a, whachumacallit - a flat top. Had to keep my hat in place as it was flying everywhere due to the wind!

That was the end of my trip, but Prajna continued her solo adventure after dropping me off.

Great vacation - I’ll definitely be back some day.
